To Sleep, Perhaps to Dream . . .

To Dream
(A Shakespearean Parody)
Sept. 9, 2008

To sleep, perhaps to dream.
To dream, perhaps to scream
in some distant nightmare.

That is the question.
Whether or not I’ll wake to a risky heaven,
or have ghost meetings of the mind;
to dream or not to dream,
to wander through chance and time.

Our dreams,
not living,
take us to another kind of life
on an unknown and distant day.
Living in some other land,
living in some other way.

My dreams
sneak to me at night.
Speak to me at night
of lives unlived
and places unseen –
emotions unknown.

My dreams
transport me somewhere,
nowhere,
everywhere.

So to dream tonight?
To live a life unseen?
Perhaps to see nightmares come true?
Waking with a scream?
Or that terrible sense of loss
of love and happiness;
of gaining a life that once was or has been?

Of loves?

Of cares?

At least they are in a different place,
perhaps a different time, a different age.
They are what I once was
or what I could have been.

My dreams.
